A Pitch for Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is coming up on December 1st, 2020. This annual day of giving is where almost all of the Ikkatsu Project’s funding for the year originates and as the only retail fundraising that we engage in, it’s pretty important. There’s likely going to be some more written about it between now and then. If you’d like to contribute, the process is dead simple: just go to the Home page and click on the “Donate Now” button on the right sight of the page.

There’s a lot to Giving Tuesday. The sheer number of nonprofits out there that need funding is fairly daunting and from the start, there has been the expectation that Giving Tuesday is a way for smaller and more focused organizations to get some visibility. (That’s the theory I’ve been operating under, anyway.) And it has been good to be a part of a larger movement, where it feels like things can actually get better when that many people join together.

At its very best, this day of giving can support local nonprofits, doing work that has value at a scale that the larger organizations simply cannot duplicate. The big nonprofits are players in Giving Tuesday as well, but they operate at a different level. A donation to the smaller, place-based outfits like the Ikkatsu Project is more likely to be an investment in your community and your bioregion, with results that you can see up close.
