Earth Day turned into Earth Week a long time ago, and quite frankly, it has since  become Earth Month. I don’t say this as if it is a bad thing, just an observation. Beach cleanups were pretty rare around Puget Sound and the Northwest coast back in the day; that is not the case now, especially during the month of April.

It won’t take long to find an opportunity that will work for you. Maybe start with Tacoma Metro Parks Earth Day beach cleanup, especially if you live near T-town. If you’re up near Seattle,there’s a bi-annual Duwamish cleanup that is a major event and a chance to contribute to a real story of generational environmental change.

Then there’s the International Coastal Cleanup on April 19, a chance to get out on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Washington Coast. There are a whole lot of ways to tap into this effort; it’s hosted by Washington CoastSavers, and you can get all the necessary details here.

I think that’s where I’m going, somewhere out on the coast. It will be amazing.
