The 5th Annual Tacoma Shoreline Survey went off last Saturday under blue skies and light airs. Volunteers centered their efforts on Ruston Way, the north side of the Point Defiance waterfront and Thea’s Park; the Ikkatsu Project shared space in Jack Hyde Park with South Sound Surfrider, while efforts were underway in other parts of the city as well.

Because this year’s Survey coincided with a host of other Earth Day events, the volunteer pool was a little shallower than normal and the total debris weight was down, as well. (That’s actually a good thing!) Still, the total haul was substantial (463 pounds) and all the volunteers who showed up (66) had a great time.

Special shoutout to those of you who returned your app surveys and got some great gifts from Exped, Klean Kanteen and Werner Paddles. It’s not like you wouldn’t have done it anyway but a little reward always feels good.
