It’s Goodbye, Again

Remember when there was a bag ban in Washington, or when we had one on the calendar, anyway? They were going to be gone for good on January 21st, 2021, before Covid sent us scurrying back to the flimsy plastic bags because we told ourselves they were “safer.” Don’t ask me why now, it all seems like a blur anyway, this past 18 months or so.

But, come October 1st, the statewide ban on plastic grocery bags is back in place. And good riddance! It has taken a very long time and while it gives me hope that other changes may be possible, the pace of those changes is cause for concern. For now, however, it is time to say goodbye to this ubiquitous, hand-held environmental disaster. You will not be missed.
