Sometimes you are presented with the question, often in the face of some environmental catastrophe involving another offshore fossil fuel debacle: “What’s it going to take?” What’s it going to take for us to see that maybe this is all a really bad idea, this mixing of oil and water, the idea that somehow these disasters won’t happen again, even though they happen all the time?
I don’t know what it is going to take to make us face up to the facts, but if the picture of an ocean on fire, complete with bubbling flames escaping from boiling sea water doesn’t do it, I’m inclined to think that nothing will.
