As is the case with just about every other nonprofit out there, the Ikkatsu Project has had to make adjustments to the 2020 calendar in the wake of the ongoing health crisis. Some events were postponed, some programs cancelled or TBD, and nobody really knows what TBD means anymore.

The down time has provided the opportunity, however, to reassess the programs that the Ikkatsu Project has been offering and to develop new ways to provide a deeper connection for people within the Salish Sea bioregion. The usual methods aren’t open right now: beach cleanups, community science programs and public presentations are all cancelled, and school programs aren’t going to be in session anytime soon. Over the past couple of months, work has been done to adapt the existing program offerings so that they will be ready to go when the time comes but for now, most things are on hold.

But there’s something new, and hopefully informative and entertaining, on the short horizon. Next Monday, May 18, the first installment of the Ikkatsu Project’s Two Minute Meeting will be released. A short video on selected topics relating to the health of the oceans and environmental issues here in the Salish Sea watershed. Science, for sure, but also a sense of history, adventure and place, with an emphasis on understanding the ecosystems here where we live and the threats they face, as well as the incredible beauty they hold.
