It’s Earth Day again. Although most folks do their Earth Day volunteering and celebrating on Saturday, the official date of record is today and quite honestly, can’t get here soon enough.
I’m getting ready for the annual trip to DC to talk with lawmakers and staff members about the issues that are facing the oceans and what they can do about them. It’s going to be a different environment back there this year, I think. There was an election last year (in case you missed it), and DC is ground zero for venal ignorance and greed now in a way that was unimaginable even a year ago. It promises to be an interesting trip.
There are good legislators still in the game, though they are not as easily found now as in the past. We are fortunate here in Washington to have some quality representation on the national stage, and I’m looking forward to meeting with some of them just to thank them for their work.
Others have a lot more work to do and I expect to remind them of that.
