John Inch getting ready for the canoeing portion of the 2015 journey that traveled the length of the Puyallup River, from Mount Rainier to Commencement Bay. In 2021, the 3 Rivers Expedition will revisit the Puyallup, along with the White and the Carbon Rivers, in an effort to get an updated look at this amazing watershed and the threats it faces.
The Ikkatsu Project is proud of the company it keeps; the dedicated support of these companies and organizations help make our continuing expeditions and field work possible.
Special thanks to the following organizations for their continued support:
– The Bamford Foundation
– South Sound Surfrider
– Puyallup Watershed Initiative
– Pierce Co. Conservation District
Washington's San Juan Islands are beautiful from any angle but they look their finest when seen from the water. Turn Point lighthouse on Stuart Island looks out over a very active stretch of water and across to Canada just a few short miles away.
The Kalakala is gone now... and she was mostly gone when this photo was taken. By the time she returned to Tacoma from exile in Alaska, Seattle and Neah Bay, it was already over. But they sure knew how to make dreams float back in those days, didn't they?
